In addition to birds, jaguars and armadillos were seen in the recovery area of the São Francisco do Perigara Reserve, in Barão do Melgaço, 121 km from Cuiabá.

Thirteen blue macaw chicks were found by an NGO that works to preserve the species in a preservation area in Barão do Melgaço, 121 km from Cuiabá, in the Pantanal region of Mato Grosso. The region was hit by fires in 2020, impacting several animals.

The birds were healthy and well fed, according to the Arara Azul Institute, which recorded the records between November 10th and 23rd at the Francisco do Perigara Reserve, which belongs to Onçafari, whose work focuses on jaguars and maned wolves. .

The fires hit the region and affected all the fauna, but especially the blue macaws.

“Over the last two years, the Arara Azul Institute team has intensified efforts in the region to try to reduce the negative impacts of fire and this work is already bearing results”, informed the NGO.

Of the 13 puppies found, ten were big enough and received washers and nonochips that guarantee the identification of each individual. The others, newborns, will receive the identifiers in the coming months.
